a Poem for Chicago State

campusmarkerby: Reshay Ingram

The green, the black, and the white

Yet, there are personifications of red

Traces of the motherland

Woven with black and brown faces

Yet, there are personifications of red

Bleed for truth and understanding

Possess critical thinkers

Succeed expectations that have misled the representation of greatness

Traces of the motherland

Stitched with refreshing faces

A culture that’s enriched in the sand of home

It’s our home, we welcome you into our home

Woven with black and brown faces

That’s constantly under attack

But those faces will not surrender

The defender of the green, the black, and the white
